2023 Fall Decorating Trends
FALL 2023 DECORATING TRENDS & TIPS
It's officially fall now. Let's face it, the pumpkin spice slapped us in the face in September! I'm all about decorating for fall as soon as school starts or shortly after Labor Day. Sometimes I find myself wondering how I can incorporate a different look and feel into my fall decor. Maybe color? Maybe less obvious touches? Maybe 99 pumpkins instead of 100? Lol.
Design trends are suggesting a more subtle approach that augments your home with charming details reminiscent of the season. Here are some trends/tips that help make decorating easier for this season:
Tone down the traditional colors. Find mid-tone or softer toned oranges, purples, greens, browns, and oatmeal/creams for throw blankets and other decorative accessories. Think fall vegetable colors or colors like forest green, chocolate brown, eggplant, caramels, etc.
Texture, Texture, Texture. Nubby textures like boucle and thick wool are popular; although they are not as soft as you might like. Try incorporating texture into throw pillows or footrest poufs. Another consideration can be woven wall art or lamp bases. Dried grasses like pampas and wheat are a great way to add texture to your console table or dining table.
Mix decor to match the transition of the seasons. Add fall stems in with your summer green stems to add that outside transitional look. As fall turns to winter, you can achieve this same look by replacing the green with berry stems or other winter branches.
Formal table setting is back. Don't be afraid to mix in favorite metal pieces, crystal, china, etc. and layer settings with plate chargers, multiple runners or off-set tablecloths to achieve a more elevated look for entertaining.
Statement glass decor. Keep an eye out for amber or smoke-glass vases, stemware, or clear glass mugs with a pop of color on the handle. Barware is following the same trend with the pop of color handles.
Plaid patterns. Plaid is the up-and-coming pattern of the season. Plaids are versatile for multiple seasons based on colors and can be used on anything from a sofa, an area rug, an accent chair, trays and other decor accents.
Add the unexpected. Blue and white are making their appearance in many fall vignettes including using ginger jars and other dishware, particularly in the Southern US. Don't be afraid to use pieces like vases, metal bowls, candlesticks, etc. to achieve a more eclectic and curated fall look.
